Volunteering
We are partnering with MESA, the Math Engineering Science Achievement organization. Since 1974, MESA has served underrepresented and underserved students in their pursuit of STEM. The students in the organization range from middle school to undergraduates and MESA serves around 50,000 students annually.
The RJ Pimentel Memorial Foundation group is planning to engage with MESA centers throughout California and Washington with plans to expand our efforts to other centers in the near future.
We plan to support MESA through the following 3 categories:
1. Serve as day-of volunteer for large scale MESA events:
– Be judges for Student STEM Competitions
– Conduct STEM-based activities or demonstrations
– Serve as Team Captains for Hackathon-style teams
– Staff tables representing our companies at the Student Leadership Conferences
– Conduct professional development workshops for college students
2. Serve as ongoing volunteers for a MESA school or Center:
– Serve as an academic tutor at a MESA middle or high school
– Serve on a local MESA Center’s Industry Advisory Board to help identify needs and secure resources
3. Build relationships between companies and MESA:
– Host student field trips to workplaces
– Recruit volunteers for MESA events
– Connect company employee resource groups and talent acquisition
As we continue our volunteer work and solidify our cadences with our MESA centers, we will expand our volunteer work to additional avenues and include the option for additional personnel to get involved with these volunteer efforts.
